-First half was shite, tepid, neither side look anything like a well-functioning attacking team

-If Bilic hadn't gone and got a hair transplant he'd be a geezer

-Second half got better, would have loved for Romania to steal it. Were solid defensively throughout the game, and could have knicked it with a snapshot-chance before Payet's screamer

-Payet - an absolute gem of a player. Set slight the screen with that strike, hope it's the sign of more to come

-Point on Romania - while watching, Carney and I discussed how great it must have been for a Romanian fan to see that penalty go in. "Poorest country in Europe (or at least one of the poorest), vilified across the continent by media, upper-class spivvs and tories for being gypsies....just imagine if they turned up here and took the trophy home" - and that would be incredible, imagine them seeing off Germany 1-0 in an extra-time final, a political uprising on the football pitch

-England fans and hooliganism. Few questions here. Already being painted as typical 'yobs' etc. As if these journalists have already thoroughly surveyed and logged the demographic backgrounds of all involved. One of the chants, "fuck off Europe, we're gonna vote out" - what a chant, at least some people can see the EU for the pile of exploitative shite that it is. Shamefully, it looks as though this has been tied up with racism. Which in a way merely extends the Leave campaign's rhetoric. English people running abroad in rage as their country falls to bits at the hands of Tories - all too familiar story

How Do You Sleep - Stone Roses (1994)

This is a true gem of a tune. It’s probably the most poppy song on Second Coming , and I much prefer it to it’s sister song on the album, Ten Storey Love Song. Ten Storey is a good song in its own right, but lacks the lyrical anger and bitterness of the first album’s snake-fanged bite. Ten Storey is also the showcase of the new Ian Brown vocal: a voice which no longer slips and bleeds through the instrumental fabric but, ala Gallagher, tries to roar over and even fight against it. John Squire’s meatier, bold guitar lines demanded a louder, more potent vocal than the soft whispers of Fools Gold, and the smothered wail heard on This Is The One. Instrumentally, The Second Coming songs lacked the loose, almost improvised roll of the first album. There are fewer empty spaces, fewer moments of pure bass and drum and therefore, fewer moments for Brown to intone gently without competing against the lead guitar.  The lyrics on Second Coming were written entirely
